On Wednesday night the Pender boys beat the Topsail boys for the second time this season in high school basketball. We had action from that backyard rivalry contest on WWAY along with hoops from the Topsail-Pender girls game and the North Brunswick-South Brunswick boys affair. Wilmington's Derek Brunson was more than impressive on Wednesday at his UFC fight in Kentucky. Brunson won on a first round tap out. Laney and New Hanover both won soccer playoff games. We have loads of coverage from New Hanover's win. The UNCW men's soccer team won on Wednesday to secure a first round bye in the CAA Tournament. The Buffalo Bills released former New Hanover Wildcat Jay Ross on Tuesday. The New Hanover boys soccer team will advance to round two of the state playoffs after a shutout victory on Tuesday against Hoke County. We caught up with East Bladen boys basketball coach Ken Cross on the eve of the first official practice of the season. Wilmington's Kadeem Allen made a verbal commitment to play basketball at the University of Arizona. Allen graduated from New Hanover. He also played hoops at Laney.
