videoIt only took one outing on the mound for Hoggard graduate Joe O'Donnell to earn pitcher of the week honors in the Coastal Plain League. O'Donnell was the winning pitcher in Wilmington's first win of the season on Saturday. Without O'Donnell on the mound the Sharks won their second game in a row on Monday. Plus more!

State playoffs start today for baseball & softball

videoThe high school state playoffs start tonight for high school baseball and softball. Soccer playoffs start later this week for most teams. State playoff lacrosse action is already into the second week of play. We have all the pairings involving local teams. NC State's baseball momentum came to a crashing halt on Monday night in Raleigh. Weekend sports update: Hammerheads win, state track title for North Brunswick + more

North Brunswick's boys track & field team won the 2-A state title over the weekend. The Wilmington Hammerheads won their second game of the season. Former New Hanover football standout Jermaine Jones is headed to New York for a tryout with the Jets + news and results involving UNCW sports.

College offers cloned Venus Flytraps to Alderman Park

videoHelp could be on the way for Alderman Park after more than 1,000 Venus Flytraps were poached last week. Southeastern Community College has offered some of its cloned Venus Flytraps plants to replenish the breed at the Stanley Rehder Garden in Wilmington.

Report: merging NC community colleges would save

video A proposal to consolidate community colleges in the state has many college leaders split on the idea. The General Assembly's Program Evaluation Division says merging several colleges into a larger neighboring school would save about $5 million a year.

SCC Rams end season at juco world series

The Southeastern Community College baseball team committed five errors on Monday against Des Moines Area Community College. Some of the errors directly resulted in early runs for Des Moines. As a result the season came to an end on Monday for our local baseball squad from Columbus County.

SCC Rams hold off Gateway at juco world series

The Southeastern Community College baseball team lost their first round game on Saturday at the national junior college world series. The Rams rebounded on Sunday though with a come from behind win with four runs in the ninth inning.

SCC Rams lose first game in juco World Series

Western Oklahoma jumped out to an early five run advantage against Southeastern Community College on Saturday. The Rams caught up, but they never gained the lead. In order to win the national junior college division two world series the Southeastern CC Rams have to win five games in a row. If they lose again they'll be out of the tournament.
