The N.C. Department of Transportation's Ferry Division will be running an abbreviated schedule at its Southport-Fort Fisher route on Monday, due to a problem with the Motor Vessel Fort Fisher.

Southport-Fort Fisher Ferry schedule tweaked for 'Safe Haven' shoot

The NC Department of Transportation's Ferry Division will cancel two departures for the Southport-Fort Fisher Ferry tonight for a movie shoot. The cast and crew of the Nicholas Sparks book turned movie "Safe Haven" will use the Motor Vessel Southport and its crew for a shoot this evening.

Some NC lawmakers recommend repealing new tolls

A General Assembly committee has recommended legislation to repeal proposed new and higher tolls on North Carolina ferry routes that have been at the center of a dispute between Democratic Gov. Bev Perdue and Republican legislative leaders.

The legislature required the Department of Transportation to raise more revenue from ferry riders, but a recent executive order by the governor has temporarily stopped that plan. People in southport are still worried about the possibility of a hike.
