Rasheed Brown of Trask was the frontrunner for WWAY's play of the night with a sensational slam dunk in the second quarter for Trask. It didn't end up being the play of the night though. Ashley's T.J. Williams ended up with that honor after he slammed home a dunk at the buzzer to give Ashley a one point win over New Hanover. On Friday night WWAY provided extensive coverage from the Laney Sports Hall of Fame ceremony. The hall grew by seven. Friday was also a special night at New Hanover High School. The 2012 state champion Wildcat basketball team was honored prior to the New Hanover-New Bern game. Friday also featured a game in Leland that was marred by fan misconduct. Due to the holidays, Friday night was a light night for high school basketball in our region. We did manage to find hoops in Wilmington and Hampstead, but it wasn't a good night for the home teams. Full story...

On Monday the East Carolina Pirates held their final Greenville practice before heading to New Orleans for their upcoming bowl game. On Monday WWAY had high school hoops from Pender High. It was a backyard rivalry game between the Patriots and the Topsail Pirates. Duke is now #1 in the country in men's basketball. Full story...

On Tuesday night on WWAY we checked out high school basketball action from Shallotte, Rocky Point and Hampstead. This includes the first game of the season for the 4-A defending state champion New Hanover Wildcats.... On Tuesday the UNC Tar Heels were cold on the court in Hawaii, especially in the first half.
