Thursday night sports featured three Tar Heel basketball players who have declared for the NBA Draft next season. We also recognized New Hanover senior guard Kadeem Allen for being named to the All-State squad by the Associated Press. In Wednesday night's sports segment we featured an extra innings baseball thriller between NC State and East Carolina in Raleigh. We also traveled to Hampstead to check in on Topsail baseball and softball teams. Both squads are state ranked. Michael Jordan used to hold Laney's single game scoring record by himself. That distinction is now a shared honor. UNC Tar Heel Stilman White attended the Hoggard-New Hanover game. We talked with White and we showcased the Vikings & Wildcats along with the Laney-Ashley matchup in Buctown. The girls game at Laney went down to the wire. On Thursday we also featured Topsail as our team of the week. On Thursday night on WWAY we featured the championship game of the girls holiday high school basketball tournament at Laney High School. Undefeated Laney hosted Ashley, but the Bucs didn't capture the title. It went to the Screaming Eagles instead.
