It came to our attention today that Brent Campbell, a rising senior and captain of the UNCW men’s track team, was training on the Intramural fields at around 3pm in front of New Hanover gym when a blue pickup truck with 5 white male individuals drove past him several times and made derogatory racial comments. A former UNCW swimmer has died while mountain climbing in Washington over the weekend. A university spokeswoman says Richard "Grey" Liston attended UNCW from 2004-2007. He was a member of the school's swimming team. Full story...

Andy Griffith, Maya Angelou and even the talk show queen herself, Oprah Winfrey, have been recognized with one of the state's highest honors: the Order of the Long Leaf Pine. The UNCW men's basketball team has made the grade. The NCAA released its academic report cards today. Eighteen Division I teams will miss the postseason next school year. That number does not include UNCW. Full story...

"I'm announcing today that we will continue all 19 of our sports programs," Chancellor Gary Miller announced to a crowded room at UNCW's Burney Center this morning. It came as a shock to some and a relief to others. UNC Wilmington Chancellor Gary Miller announced this morning he would not cut teams from the school athletic department. Miller's announcement got a standing ovation from seahawk athletes, but that announcement was also a call to action to the university and the community. Full story...
