UNCW hosts geologists meeting

UNCW is hosting the southeastern section of the Geological Society of America annual meeting at the Wilmington Convention Center. It was a nice day, so earth scientists headed outside to enjoy some hospitality.

Peace Corps makes Wilmington native 50th anniversary cover girl

On the 2011 Peace Corps commemorative poster, Caitrin Martin, a Laney and UNCW grad, is featured with a little boy. Martin served in the Corps in Senegal from 2007 to 2009.

Seahawks stomp Spiders in WNIT

Cynthia Cooper-Dyke continues to work magic as the head coach of the UNC Wilmington women's basketball team. The Seahawks will be advancing to the second round of the WNIT. UNCW will host Eastern Michigan on Monday at Trask Coliseum.

Economists say local economy will grow moderately over next several years

Total personal income in the Wilmington Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) is forecast to grow 3.3 percent during 2011, with the growth rate slowing to around three percent in both 2012 and 2013. Personal income is the total income earned by individuals from all sources. The three counties of Brunswick, New Hanover and Pender comprise the MSA.

UNCW golf team wins second tourney of spring season

UNCW golfer Josh Brock was a standout golfer during his high school days at New Hanover. He's now tearing up the competition on the collegiate level. Brock won the Pinehurst Intercollegiate Tournament on Sunday. On top of that individual honor, UNCW won the team competition of the tourney as well.

Former Miss America to reign over Azalea Festival

video Heather French Henry won the crown of Miss America in 2000. She is also a fashion designer with her own clothing line. As Miss America and since, Henry has traveled the nation championing veteran's issues. That dedication ties into this year's Azalea Festival's focus on honoring the military.

UNCW chancellor search narrows

The 16-member search committee tasked with helping select the University of North Carolina Wilmington's next chancellor met today to discuss the top candidates for the job and determine who will be invited to participate in the first round of the interview process.

Chefs square off in culinary competition

Kitchen Stadium has moved to UNCW with a statewide "Iron Chef" style competition. Forty-two chefs from across the Carolinas made their way to campus today to face off during the Aramark Culinary Excellence Chef Competition.
