West Brunswick boys improve to 10-0 in basketball; BCC men win too

videoThe West Brunswick Trojans sit on top of the Mideastern Conference with a 3-0 league mark and an overall record of 10-0. We checked in with the Trojans on Thursday. West Brunswick beat arch rival South Brunswick by 15 points. We also checked out college action involving Brunswick Community College.

Hoggard dunks over North Brunswick, West Brunswick stays undefeated & Laney falls in OT

videoThe North Brunswick boys did not put up much resistance to Hoggard on Tuesday night. Dunks from Xavier Johnson energized the crowd and the Vikings rolled to an easy win. We had our sports cameras in Shallotte too. West Brunswick remains undefeated. Laney lost in overtime against Scotland County. We were there for that one as well. We did showcase a victory from the Laney girls though.

Opening night of league play in the Mideastern Conference

videoWe had our sports cameras out and about on Tuesday night. The Hoggard boys basketball team used a handful of slam dunks to their advantage in the league opener against Topsail. The West Brunswick boys team held off a pesky Laney squad. The game was tied late in regulation until Ty Hill nailed a shot from behind the arc to lead the Trojans to a 69-66 victory. Gray Cheers led West Brunswick with a game high 34 points.

UNC academic report set for release; Joe Miller & Jack Holley recognized in Chapel Hill

videoA report on academic misconduct in regard to athletics at the University of North Carolina will be released on Wednesday. Freddie Jackson stole the show at UNCW's Midnite Madness. We showed his creative slam dunk on our sports on Monday night. Plus we showcased NCHSAA Hall of Fame Day from Chapel Hill where the late Joe Miller and Jack Holley were honored.

Pharoah McKever excels in debut for NC State

videoNC State defeated Old Dominion over the weekend in college football to improve to 2-0 on the season. Clearly, one of the difference makers on defense turned out to be a redshirt freshman who didn't even play in the Wolfpack season opener. On Monday on WWAY we showcased Pharoah McKever's college debut. McKever is a graduate of South Columbus High. Plus we have more football news on Mike Sheehan, Nick Napolitano and Jonathan Cooper!

Hammerheads defeat first place Orlando City; West Brunswick loses in Thursday night football

videoThe Wilmington Hammerheads have suddenly caught fire. They've won two of their last three games. This includes a huge victory on Thursday over first place Orlando City. West Brunswick football players got a jump on the weekend. The Trojans played on Thursday night, but they lost to Myrtle Beach High School. Plus more!

videoThe 2014 high school football regular season is underway. On Friday we had coverage from several games. We expected to have a full slate, but the weather interfered with those plans. Some games were completed. Some started, but will need to be resumed. Some games never started.
