As mentioned last week on WWAY Laney football & basketball standout Tariq Lane will not be returning to Buctown when school starts back. Lane has decided to move to Charlotte. Lane will also re-classify, which will add another year of high school eligibility to one of the most electrifying athletes in Wilmington. The South Columbus High School community is mourning the loss of running back Cephus McGill. The sophomore died Sunday night. Hoggard senior basketball standout Trevor Singleton has signed on the dotted line to play college basketball. The Screaming Eagles are looking fantastic this season in both baseball and softball. We checked out action on Wednesday from Ashley involving Topsail and Ashley High. In college baseball UNCW and East Carolina both won. In fact the Pirates picked up a non-conference victory against NC State. Full story...

The Hoggard girls soccer team continues to dominant their conference opponents this season. We were there for Hoggard's victory over West Brunswick on Monday. The Columbus County School Board met on Monday. We're told Kyle Hutchison's name was submitted to the board in order for Hutchison to take over the football program at South Columbus High.
