West Columbus nipped South Columbus in baseball on Friday in extra innings. We were in Cerro Gordo for the dramatic finish. We also showcased an 18 strikeout effort by Topsail's Clark Cota against Hogggard. South Columbus appears to have "their man" for its vacant football job. On Tuesday Laney, West Brunswick and Trask all participated in the state wrestling duals. We had highlights from Buctown. We also featured high school hoops as well. This included Ashley's sweep of Hoggard, Whiteville's win over West Columbus in boys basketball and West Bladen's victory over Pender. Tuesday night is typically a full night for high school hoops, but that wasn't the case tonight. We still managed to find some basketball action though. UNCW is proud to announce senior Rafael Aita made the roster for his native country for the Davis Cup. Aita will play for Peru in the upcoming Davis Cup. Plus more! Full story...

There will be two football jamborees in our region on Friday: the BB&T Jamboree in Wilmington and the Buddy Burney Jamboree in Bladen County. On Friday we had state playoff action from Ashley, Hoggard, Whiteville and Cerro Gordo on WWAY. The biggest upset of the night took place in Whiteville where the defending 2-A state baseball champs lost to Clinton. Trask won the 1-A state title in track. On Friday the Wilmington Hammerheads dropped to 1-4 on the season. UNCW had an historic win in men's tennis. Seahawk Lori Beth Adams continues to tear up the golf course. Plus more! Full story...
