A fair number of high school basketball teams opened the season on Tuesday night. We had game action involving Ashley, Cape Fear Academy and Wilmington Christian Academy. In fact Ashley boys head basketball coach Webster Guthrie picked up a win in his first game as the head coach of the Screaming Eagles. Hoggard, Pender, South Columbus and Wilmington Christian all won state playoff volleyball games on Thursday night. Odds are we'll have at least one state champion from the area this year. On Thursday New Hanover won the boys soccer crown for the Mideastern Conference. We were there for that too. Plus, the Landfall Tradition tees off on Friday. Prior to the event we caught up with UNCW Seahawk golfer Kayla Thompson. The UNCW freshman is a graduate of West Bladen High. Full story...

On Wednesday New Hanover shutout Hoggard in boys soccer. We were there to see some of the action. The Wildcats will earn a league title if they can win on Thursday against Ashley. Four area volleyball teams will continue their state playoff journey on Thursday. In fact the Wilmington Christian squad has a shot at securing a state volleyball title this weekend in Greensboro. We had our sports cameras out and about on Tuesday. We checked out the signing day ceremony at Laney, plus three different athletic events involving Ashley and Hoggard. On top of that we showcased the boys high school golf championship for New Hanover County on Tuesday that featured Laney, Hoggard, Ashley, New Hanover, Cape Fear Academy and Wilmington Christian. Tuesday night is typically a full night for high school hoops, but that wasn't the case tonight. We still managed to find some basketball action though. UNCW is proud to announce senior Rafael Aita made the roster for his native country for the Davis Cup. Aita will play for Peru in the upcoming Davis Cup. Plus more! Full story...

Friday's Full Court Press featured basketball action from Brunswick County, New Hanover County, Columbus County, Onslow County and Pender County. We also took an in-depth look at Monday's MLK Jamfest that will be held in Sampson County.
