David Irving named head coach of Tulsa

videoWe knew it was just a matter of time. David Irving is back in the USL Pro Soccer League, On Wednesday he was named the head coach of the new Tulsa franchise. Irving had been the face of the Wilmington Hammerheads for more than a decade until he stepped down this summer.

UNCW men and women to host exhibition basketball games on Saturday; Kevin Keatts Show starts Sunday

Laney & New Hanover advance in soccer state playoffs

videoLaney and New Hanover both won state soccer playoff games on Wednesday night. The two Wilmington schools will now face each other on Saturday. This guarantees a Mideastern Conference team will earn a spot in the eastern finals next week.

Season ends for Hammerheads in playoffs

Sammy Ochoa tied the game at one goal apiece early in the second half in the Wilmington Hammerheads game on Saturday night. Unfortunately Sacramento scored twice right after Ochoa scored to take all the momentum away from the visitors. The 2014 soccer season for Wilmington is now over.

Hammerheads set for return to soccer playoffs; Thursday football on our radar, along with Friday rain

videoThe Wilmington Hammerheads return to postseason play on Saturday. They'll be heading across the country to face Sacramento. Tamera Young may not need a miracle, but her Chicago Sky team has to win on Friday to keep the season alive in the WNBA for Chicago. Plus, expected foul weather on Friday means we'll have Thursday football.

Hammerheads clinch playoff spot; UNCW beats Wake Forest in soccer, ties Ohio State

Despite a coaching change late in the regular season the Wilmington Hammerheads will be in the playoffs. The Hammerheads won on Friday against Dayton. The UNCW women's soccer team defeated Wake Forest on Friday. It was the first win ever for UNCW over Wake Forest in women's soccer. The UNCW men's soccer squad tied Ohio State.

videoOrlando City was dubbed the 2014 USL PRO regular season champion following Wednesday night's scoreless draw against the Wilmington Hammerheads FC at Legion Stadium. The Hammerheads are still in pursuit of a playoff spot as they approach their final two matches of the regular season this weekend.

Four of the games ended in a deadlock. A handful of area football teams are ranked in the first AP high school football poll this season. Plus more!

Former New Hanover Wildcat Nick Becton has a new home in the NFL. The New York Giants picked up Becton on Sunday. Former New Hanover Wildcat Trevon Brown scored his first college touchdown on Saturday. Plus more, including sports from UNCW and Cape Fear Community College.

West Brunswick football players got a jump on the weekend. The Trojans played on Thursday night, but they lost to Myrtle Beach High School. Plus more!
