videoThe Wilmington Sharks defeated the Fayetteville SwampDogs on Wednesday night at Buck Hardee Field. The road game on Thursday for the Sharks is up in the air. The status of Thursday's home soccer game for the Wilmington Hammerheads will be decided on Thursday morning.

The Wilmington Hammerheads recorded another draw on Saturday night. In fact it's the second tie this month between the Richmond Kickers and the Wilmington Hammerheads.

Hammerheads partner with Cape Fear Soccer Club; USA football clinic to be held at West Bladen on Saturday

videoWilmington Hammerheads FC has a new partnership with the largest youth club in our region. The Hammerheads are excited about the new partnership, but the players appear to be more focused on their next game. Wilmington will host Richmond at Legion Stadium on Saturday night. A free, one-day clinic that's designed to introduce children to football will be held at West Bladen High on Saturday morning. The clinic will feature Richard Howell, the assistant strength and conditioning coach for the Indianapolis Colts.

Hammerheads tie Chicago; Sharks win

For the second Saturday in a row the Wilmington Hammerheads came from behind to force a 2-2 outcome. The Chicago Fire reserve team leaves town with a 2-2 score against the Hammerheads. Elsewhere, the Wilmington Sharks beat Petersburg on Saturday.

Fred Lynch Invitational tips off on Monday; three day event honors former Laney hoops coach

videoThe Fred Lynch Invitational tips off on Monday at six different locations in New Hanover County. 50 high school basketball teams will be competing in the three day event. The Ashley boys basketball team won't be competing in the event as the Screaming Eagles are in the middle of a coaching change. Ashley will formally introduce their new boys basketball coach on Monday though. Plus more!

Hammerheads fall to MLS partner Toronto FC in exhibition soccer match

Beach wrestling to return to Carolina Beach; Updates on Tamera Young and Jonathan Cooper

videoCarolina Beach hosted the national championship for beach wrestling in 2013 and 2014. On Tuesday we found out the event will be returning to Carolina Beach for the next two years. Former Hoggard Viking Jonathan Cooper is back on the field for Arizona. We have an update on Cooper along with former Laney Buccaneer basketball standout Tamera Young.

Hammerheads & Energy play to 2-2 draw

videoThe Wilmington Hammerheads FC and Oklahoma City Energy FC ended in a 2-2 draw at Legion Stadium on Friday night. This is the only scheduled meeting between the two teams during the USL PRO season. Three of Oklahoma City's players actually played for Wilmington last season: Gareth Evans, Kyle Greig and Steven Perry.

O'Donnell & Linkous lead Sharks to first win of 2014; Hammerheads win, too

Former North Brunswick baseball standout Steven Linkous had 3 hits on Saturday night for the Wilmington Sharks. Linkous was overshadowed though by the pitching performance of former Hoggard Viking Joe O'Donnell. In fact it was O'Donnell's season debut for the Sharks. O'Donnell recently finished his freshman season at NC State. Linkous just finished his sophomore season for UNCW. In soccer the Wilmington Hammerheads edged Charlotte 2-1 on Saturday.
