The baseball season ended on Friday night for UNCW. Only two teams remain alive in the quest for a CAA Baseball Championship: William & Mary and the College of Charleston. The Wilmington Hammerheads erupted with five goals on Friday night at Legion Stadium. In the state playoffs Topsail and Whiteville both advance in the baseball state playoffs on Friday. Don't look now, but the Wilmington Hammerheads are suddenly one of the hottest teams in USL Pro Soccer. They've won their last two games. Saturday's game against Charleston was a bit chippy, especially in the second half. Jordan Hamilton, on loan from MLS Toronto FC, scored the only goal of the game for Wilmington. Chance Shepard, Joe O'Donnell and Nathan Hood all played their high school baseball in SE North Carolina. They're now teammates at NC State. This week the mission is clear for these Wolfpack baseball players; make the ACC Baseball Tournament. If that happens the chips may end up falling later this month for a potential spot in the NCAA Tournament. Full story...

UNCW won eight events, including both relays, as the Seahawks claimed their 11th Colonial Athletic Association men’s track & field championship over the weekend. Former NFL tight end Alge Crumpler will be returning to Wilmington this weekend. The New Hanover High graduate heads this year's induction class for the 2014 Greater Wilmington Sports Hall of Fame. On Wednesday we addressed the home scoring drought for the Wilmington Hammerheads. On Wednesday the NCHSSA adopted new guidelines concerning the mercy rule for high school football and basketball.
