Former NFL tight end Alge Crumpler will be returning to Wilmington this weekend. The New Hanover High graduate heads this year's induction class for the 2014 Greater Wilmington Sports Hall of Fame. On Wednesday we addressed the home scoring drought for the Wilmington Hammerheads. On Wednesday the NCHSSA adopted new guidelines concerning the mercy rule for high school football and basketball. The Hoggard girls soccer team continues to dominant their conference opponents this season. We were there for Hoggard's victory over West Brunswick on Monday. The Columbus County School Board met on Monday. We're told Kyle Hutchison's name was submitted to the board in order for Hutchison to take over the football program at South Columbus High. West Columbus nipped South Columbus in baseball on Friday in extra innings. We were in Cerro Gordo for the dramatic finish. We also showcased an 18 strikeout effort by Topsail's Clark Cota against Hogggard. South Columbus appears to have "their man" for its vacant football job. The Wilmington Hammerheads held a meet and greet on Wednesday night. It was the first of numerous meet and greets the team plans to hold in 2014. UNCW fell behind early against Coastal Carolina in baseball, but the Seahawks managed to pull out a victory at Brooks Field. We were there for that along with UNCW-Coastal Carolina softball, Hoggard-Cape Fear Academy tennis and a signing ceremony at New Hanover. Plus more Full story...
