A security lockdown has ended at New Hanover High School, Gregory School of Science, Mathematics and Technology and New Hanover High's Jap Davis Field House, according to New Hanover County Schools. The schools were on lockdown for about 30 minutes after a shooting was reported near the campuses.

During closing arguments the defense successfully argued former Pender Co. Sheriff's Capt. Mark Sloan did not commit solicitation of prostitution because state law says prostitution involves intercourse, which the state defines as involving a man and a woman.

Some Halloween partiers got a spook when they got caught in a DWI checkpoint last night at 15th and Market Streets in Wilmington. The sting resulted in more than 60 charges, according to Barb Lynch with the group Justice in Motion.

A Wilmington man is in jail charged with robbing a Leland bank last week. Leland Police say this morning they helped the Wilmington Police Department SWAT Team serve a warrant on Sherwin Christopher Archie, 58, of Zinnia Ct. in Wilmington.
