The Ashley boys track and field team captured first place in the championship track meet for the Mideastern Conference. It's the fourth year in a row for Ashley earning top honors. On Monday we found out Ryan McCleney will be returning to the Wilmington Sharks as field manager for the second summer in a row. On Monday we checked out action on the hardwood between two of Wilmington's private high schools. As expected Duke is no longer ranked number one in the nation in college hoops. The Blue Devils lost to the NC State Wolfpack on Saturday. Full story...

On Thursday on WWAY we checked out high school basketball action from Buctown. Nathan Faulk picked up his first win as the Laney head coach on Thursday. Faulk was named the Laney head coach earlier this year. He replaces Fred Lynch. On Thursday we provided a preview of Friday's WWAY Full Court Press. Though a final agreement is still hanging over their heads, Wilmington City Council members voted unanimously to place a $37 million bond referendum to pay for the stadium on the November ballot. More than a dozen people voiced their opinions to council Tuesday during a public hearing on the bond referendum. Full story...

On Friday night we checked out soccer action from Charleston. The Hammerheads and the Battery ended up in a 2-2 draw. We even had postgame reaction from Wilmington head coach David Irving.... That's not all. New Hanover basketball standout knows where he'll be playing college basketball. Hoggard coach Ray Beatty is no longer the girls basketball coach for the Vikings. Wilmington's Jay Ross is no longer the proud owner of a Super Bowl ring. The former New Hanover standout earned the ring during his brief tenure with Green Bay, but Ross sold the ring on Thursday through an auction house in order to benefit local charities in Wilmington....On Thursday the Wilmington Sharks concluded their regular season. On Wednesday we talked with Lonnie Payton, the tournament director of the Battle of the Weekend Warriors. The two day event will swing into action on Saturday.... On Wednesday we also checked out baseball action from Morehead City involving the Wilmington Sharks. It was the last regular season road game for the Sharks. The first official practice day for high school football all across the state has come and gone. On Monday we checked out some of the sights and sounds on WWAY.... Raleigh native Tim Buckley has decided to come back to Raleigh to play for the Wolfpack.
