UNCW to host UNC in men's soccer on Tuesday; Heels & Wolfpack look to rebound in football

videoThe 22nd-ranked UNCW Seahawks will host 10th-ranked UNC Chapel Hill on Tuesday at the UNCW Soccer Stadium for a 7 p.m. kickoff. The UNC Tar Heels and the NC State Wolfpack football teams both lost over the weekend. We have reaction from former South Columbus Stallion Ethan Farmer and NC State head coach Dave Doeren. Plus, the Wilmington Tigers earned a playoff spot over the weekend.

The Wilmington Tigers are now 3-2 in the Mason Dixon League after a shutout home win on Saturday. The Wilmington Hammerheads despite loads of chaos at the end of the game pulled out a dramatic late night win in California. Saturday also featured a few high school football games.

videoThe Richmond Kickers came into Friday's USL Pro soccer game at Legion Stadium as the second place team in the league. The Wilmington Hammerheads managed to tie the Kickers in two earlier meetings this season, but unfortunately the Wilmington Hammerheads came up short on Friday night. Plus more!

Wilmington Post 10 is stay alive in the NC American Legion Baseball State Tournament in Lexington. The Wilmington Hammerheads may have played their worst game of the season on Saturday night. The Wilmington Sharks lost their fifth game in a row. The Wilmington Tigers gave up 42 points on the road in a Mason-Dixon League football game.

Wilmington Tigers prepare for home opener in inaugural season with Jay Ross as head coach

videoJay Ross is moving forward. His NFL career appears to be behind him. The former New Hanover Wildcat and East Carolina Pirate is now the head football coach of the Wilmington Tigers. Wilmington's semi-pro football team will hold their home opener on Saturday.

The Wilmington Hammerheads and Wilmington Sharks suffered setbacks on Saturday night, but the Wilmington Tigers were victorious. In fact Saturday's game was the season opener for the Tigers.

Jay Ross to be named head coach of Wilmington Tigers

videoIt appears the NFL career for Wilmington's Jay Ross has been put on hold. The New Hanover High alum will return to the football sideline this summer as the head coach of the Wilmington Tigers semi-pro football team. A news conference will be held on Friday to formally introduce Ross as the new head coach of the Tigers.

videoThe Wilmington Hammerheads desperately needed a win on Sunday afternoon, but the Pittsburgh Riverhounds proved to be stingy hosts. The Riverheads edged the Hammerheads 2-1. At the British Open Phil Mickelson won in comeback fashion on Sunday at Muirfeld. Former Laney Buccaneer Tamera Young led Chicago in scoring over the weekend in a WNBA game against New York.
