New Hanover Regional Medical Center is back to business as usual after an emergency lockdown Tuesday night. Police have charged Shamel McCallum with attempted armed robbery. Police say McCallum attempted to rob the Two-Fifth clothing store on South 17th Street, and was shot in the foot by a store employee. McCallum went to the hospital around 7:30 p.m. and threatened to kill an employee if he wasn't treated. New Hanover Regional spokesperson Carolyn Fisher said hospital employees acted quickly. “Volunteers at the desk, as a precaution, notified special police and they called a lockdown: at which point the man ran into the emergency department and barricaded himself in a bathroom.” Police were eventually able to get McCallum to open the door. He had been released from prison on December 22 after serving a sentence for common law robbery and assault on an officer. Fisher said the hospital will not seek further charges.

no further charges

"Fisher said the hospital will not seek further charges." God forbid the hospital do something to help support or protect it's employees at the risk of offending the public...

The system is hopelessly broken

McCallum went to prison on 11/22/07. He had been sentenced to a MINIMUM TERM of one year, eight months for common law robbery, a felony. He also had a consecutive sentence of no more than five months for assaulting an officer. Yet he is out on the street robbing again less than fourteen months after he went to prison. The icing on the cake, he had disciplinary infractions in prison up until fifteen days before he was released. The system is broken and the government refuses to protect you. Every store owner, clerk, and taxi driver needs to get a firearm and learn how to use it proficiently.... ...and stop aiming for their feet!

In the foot!!??

It gets worse with every report. Who gave a gun to Stevie Wonder?
