Chronic back pain can be a debilitating and frustrating problem. Fortunately there are many treatment options available.
Dr. George Huffmon, a neurological surgeon at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, stopped by Good Morning Carolina to talk about one type of back surgery.
"One of the newer stabilizing surgeries we've got is using this device to hold bones together while bones fuse," Huffmon said. "So we go in and take pressure of the nerves, and we put this device in and then usually some type of bone for bones to grow together. Bio-mechanically this is not as sound as something with screws and rods, a much bigger surgery, but this is less invasive."
