Christmas Day will be even more special for some local families, after New Hanover Regional Medical Center staff granted their wishes. Friday, more than one thousand gifts were piled into EMS trucks to be sent off to 50 Wilmington families. Gifts were collected and donated by hospital employees. The hospital has been part of the Adopt a Family program for the past 25 years. Diane Jacobs, part of Human Resources at New Hanover Regional, said, "We give back to our community every year and everyone just gets on board and gets real excited. It's a big venture here for us to do this." Gifts ranged from clothes to bikes for every child in each family.
