Preparations are underway for the ninth annual Cape Fear Community College Wooden Boat Show. When they were not smoothing out the rough spots, students spent the day discussing their final plans for Saturday's show. Cape Fear students will display six or seven boats, and with the weekend quickly approaching, head instructor Ed Verge is calling for all hands on deck. "They all work on all of them. What we do is we pick a design, we set up the building jig for four or five different boats and we plank 'em all different kinds of ways," said Verge. Organizers expect about 40 boats to participate in this year's show and will award prizes in several categories. The boats will be on display from 9:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Saturday in downtown Wilmington, between the Coastline Convention Center and the Hilton. Admission is free.
