No new bus routes to Wrightsville Beach

WILMINGTON -- Three weeks ago Wave Transit in New Hanover County made a major overhaul to its bus routes. Those changes did not include the addition of routes to Wrightsville Beach. The town hasn't had bus service for about ten years. There's been a lot of discussion over the last year to add wave bus service to Wrightsville Beach, but for now it appears to be a dead issue. There are two major groups that want bus service to Wrightsville Beach -- the hotels & restaurants, and UNCW students. If you're concerned about Wave's recent changes, or want to voice your opinion about adding routes to Wrightsville Beach, you can attend a public meeting on the matter. It takes place tomorrow from noon to 1:00 p.m., at Wave's office on Castle Street.

WB does not want the bus down there. The rich want to keep the beach to themselves.
Just a shuttle to the beach taking off from a free parking site with restrooms would be helpful.
Was in the vicinty of NHRH for sometime today and saw 3 large buses and 3 handicap van's with a total of 2 passengers.
It's not hard to find empty buses even with the new routes.......and they seem to run in groups of 2 and 3 at a time....get rid of government invovlement in mass transit and let private enterprise have a stab at it!
The 2 biggest draws of Wilmington are downtown and the beach, and there is no bus service between the two locations? What's the deal with our local government? Seriously stupid. Or seriously under-ambitious.
the last article you had i believe said that the bus was going to drop people off at the bridge. this is far from the beach and in the hot summer how are people going to walk to the beach from there? can you get some clarification as to where the bus is going to drop people off? it would be good if it dropped them off right at a public acess point.
how can you add routes & not have proper benches/shelters for ppl to wait in/on? Have you seen how CLOSE these bus stops are to the highway? The added routes are ok, but I'm not going to endanger my life waiting for a speeding car to hit me, not to mention I cant ride if its a downpour....How many of you "suits" ride the bus?
I believe and the opinion i have been hearing as a transit bus rider. the complaints is NOT about the bus routes to wrightville beach. The complaints I have heard is about the routes being changed and making things ALOT harder on the elder and disable people that relies on wave transit to get the business in their lives taken care of.
