WILMINGTON -- The Interpol Special Police are getting ready for a busy day Saturday at the 11th annual Wing Fling. That's because this year, they're stepping up security.
Interpol Special Police are handling security at this year's Wing Fling. They're tightening up the ranks. They say they've beefed up their force by 60 percent.
"There will be someone at each tent checking id's which is something they didn't necessarily do last year or the year before," Joe Guarascio, Chief of the Interpol Special Police said.
The reason? The Special Police say more partiers are expected to attend the event this year.
"We're expecting a larger crowd than next year, so it's going to be pretty busy," Guarascio said.
They're cracking down on what the special police have noticed have been the event's biggest problems.
"We'll be a lot stricter on underage drinking as well as drunk and disruptive activity," Guarascio said.
Officers will be in full uniform at the event, keeping a watchful eye for people getting rowdy.
"We try to prevent the crime from happening obviously before it occurs," Guarascio said.
The special police say people arrested at tomorrow's event will be taken to the New Hanover County Jail, just as if they'd been arrested by the WPD.
Interpol did a great job..
With over 6000 people attending, I think Interpol did a great job in controlling the crowd. I was told by several people there, that over 200 underage drinkers were thrown out and there was only one fight. Its seems that some of you have a personal problem with them but the truth is obvious. It is also apparent that many of you do not understand that charged does not mean guilty.. hence the term innocent until proven guilty..

On his stalking charge that was dismissed, the judge is quoted as saying there was no evidence of an assault. As per the stalking statute (I added that superfluous "as" for you Joe), assault is not one of the elements of stalking.

Inter-pol NOT Interpol
Interpol, international police agency dealing with high crimes.
Inter-pol is a Wilmington company headed by a man who was fired from the Sheriff's Department and because of an assault charge and a contributing to the delinquency of a minor charge he has had his certification revoked and thus had pending charges of impersonating an officer. They have 3 employees that mostly work as bouncers in downtown nightclubs.
Please note the differences between the two. One has a hyphen, as in ex-officer.

weird where you get your information from. All these people talking bad about Interpol Special Police. Im guessing its becasue you have had dealings yourself with them for doing their job. Maybe if you didnt read so much into it and knew the facts, Interpol has deterred crime in the wilmington area and im glad to have them patrol my area where im at. I feel much more safer than I did last year.

Unfortunately, he is a sworn police officer with the same certification as thousands of other good men and women officers in NC. He does have, however, severe statutory limitations on his jursidiction.He has full jurisdiction on contracted property but zero authority anywhere else in the city. Special police is a very useful tool the state uses, but it is up to the administrators of said agency to make it work. There are 3 other agencies in Wilmington that fall under the same statute as Inter-pol. NHRMC Special police, UNCW campus police and Pinnacle Special Police. All police officers who do their jobs so you never hear about the good things these guys and girls do.

Someone of authority should have been helping direct traffic coming out of the park onto Pine Grove Drive. While we were passing the park around 3pm a man holding a beer and appearing intoxicated was directing/stopping traffic on Pine Grove Drive.

I'm surprised he doesn't have the he has a drivers license listed, or maybe it is revoked just like his police powers. I sent him a mail asking why his latest arrest by the SBI isn't listed on the website? It wouldn't surprise me to see it listed as "worked with the SBI on an arrest. My own."
