Employees missing pay at adult care facility

READ MORE:
WILMINGTON -- Just when you thought it was over, there is more trouble at a local adult care facility. Glen-Care Assisted Living used to be called Jasmine Cove. Tuesday was payday, but employees say some of their pay was missing. Several employees of Glen-Care are furious about their missing wages. Employees say they arrived at the adult care facility Tuesday expecting their paychecks to be there. Instead, they say got paid about half of what they had earned. Glen-Care's new owner, Glenn Kornegay, says the facility's former owner, CareAmerica, only forwarded about $7,000 in pay. To make it fair to all 26 employees who were to receive those wages, Kornegay says he split the money evenly. But employees say it's not enough and they're not happy. Former employee Tina Fought said, "I have rent, I'm helping my friend support her three kids, electric, food, clothes – everything." Glen-Care's owners apologized to employees for the inconvenience, but say they have no control over this past pay period. The new company took ownership of Jasmine Cove on March 29 and says when it comes time to pay their employees next week everyone will be paid in full. We tried contacting CareAmerica to find out why their employees were shortchanged but there was no answer. Glen Kornegay says former owners told him the rest of the money should be in by next Wednesday.
