Pet owners stocking up on organic pet foods

WILMINGTON -- The recent pet food recall has caused panic among dog and cat owner nationwide. About 15 animals died as a result of the tainted food and hundreds of others got sick. And now animal owners are seeking food alternatives to keep their pets safe. Pet stores in our area are stocking their shelves with organic pet food. It's made right here in the US of all natural products. Jackie Oakes owns Coastal K9 Bakery in Wilmington and says in the past few weeks a lot of pet owners have been asking for something safe for their four-legged friend. Oakes said, "People have been coming in looking for something natural and this is what the customers is getting." Coastal K9 Bakery sells Innova and California Natural brand name pet foods made of organic products. FDA reports showed some recalled pet food contained wheat gluten contaminated with chemicals. Oakes says organic products don't contain gluten.. "It doesn't contain any chemicals by products no preservatives -- all natural safe." Pet owners like Joan Lyness say they're just looking out for the best interest of their pet. Since the recall Oakes says she is constantly reloading her shelves with organic food. And that keeps her customers and their best friends happy. Innova and California Natural brand pet are available for both dogs and cats.
