Brunswick County man charged with first-degree murder

BRUNSWICK COUNTY -- A Brunswick County man is in jail charged with first-degree murder. The Brunswick County Sheriff's Office arrested Leon Williams Jr. Tuesday. Sheriff Ron Hewett says he is the only suspect right now for the shooting death of Anthony Alex Smith. Smith was shot early Easter morning at a private club in Supply. Sheriff Hewett says Williams Jr. was a person of interest early in the investigation, but after talking to witnesses, Williams Jr. became the prime suspect. Sheriff Hewett said, "Our first contact we had with Mr. Williams was on Sunday afternoon. He then returned to the office today, at which point he was taken in to custody and charged with the murder of Mr. Smith." The Brunswick County Sheriff's Office says the investigation is far from over. Although they don't believe anyone else is involved in the shooting, they are still asking that witnesses come forward. Williams Jr. is in the Brunswick County jail under no bond.
