Authorities try to quell shooting rumors

READ MORE: Authorities try to quell shooting rumors
WILMINGTON -- There was a high profile effort Thursday afternoon to quell rumors swirling around last week's police-involved shooting of Phillipe McIver. Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo, Police Chief Ralph Evangelous and District Attorney Ben David spoke at a public meeting at the police station this afternoon. The overall message was to assure the public that proper investigative procedures are being followed. Mayor Saffo said, "I thought is was very important and a very good meeting for us to get that information out to the public as we know it, and to let them know what the process is in regards to the investigation and for everyone to stay calm until the investigation is finished." City officials say one of the reasons why people might not be getting all the information they want is because of a disconnect between the public and the police force -- something the mayor says he's trying to change.
