WILMINGTON -- A guilty plea in a 2003 Wilmington murder Monday.
John Wayne Boyer plead guilty to second-degree murder. Prosecutors say in January 2003 Boyer and Scarlett Woods were at the Travel Lodge off Market Street when Boyer began to beat her.
Prosecutors say Woods lost consciousness, and Boyer loaded her into his truck then dumped her in the woods off Kerr Avenue.
Her body was discovered a year later.
An autopsy was performed but the official cause of death has never been determined.
New Hanover County prosecutor Todd Fennell said, "At or near the time of death she had suffered assaultive behavior that resulted in broken bones of the ribs and facial area. The medical examiner indicated stab marks in the pelvic area. All that indicates death by violent means."
Boyer will spend anywhere from nine-and-a-half to 12 years behind bars.
Now that Scarlett's killer has been convicted her remains will be returned to her mother so she can have a proper burial.

I think they need to look at him more closely on the Allison Jackson Foy & Angela Nobles Rothen cases,I know this man he was real real aquainted with the Monkey Junction Area and Leland area where Miss Rothen was from I bet if they check he personaly knew her(Rothen).I just feel it in my heart and my feeling about him from the first time I ever laid eyes on him I told my husband when he walked out of the company office I ask who is that my husband said he is a new driver the company hired I told him then there is something about him I don't like he looks like a serial killer a rapiest or something my husband told me I was crazy.Then November 2002 my husband told me John had told him detectives were wanting to talk to him about a missing girl my husband told him well you need to call and go talk to them he said yea I am,he had to have been talking about Rose then cause Scarlett went missing that following January 2003,he quit the company between april-aug 2004,but was in and out of this area cause he was seen frequitly.Well who is the crazy one now.This man is PURE EVIL
