Woods to play in Wachovia Championship

Story body

CHARLOTTE (AP) -- The folks at the Wachovia Championship can exhale now. Tiger's coming.

Tiger Woods announced today that he will play at Quail Hollow Club in what has become a stacked field. His commitment means all ten of the world's top ranked players and 29 of the top 30 will play in the event, which begins May third.

It's Woods' first tournament since finishing tied for second at the Masters. He has played in the Wachovia Championship two other times, finishing tied for third in 2004 and tied for eleventh in 2005.

Woods did not play last year, when the tournament was held the same week his father died.

The field now includes one of the strongest non-major fields on the PGA Tour, which will include Phil Mickelson and defending champion Jim Furyk.
