WILMINGTON -- An update on the largest project the City of Wilmington has ever undertaken: the expansion of the Northside wastewater treatment plant.
The $86 million project is slated for completion by December 2008. It will double the current sewage capacity with plans for additional expansion.
Monday Wilmington City Council members got a first-hand look. Council member Pat Delair says this is a big step in the right direction.
Delair said, "I'm just very excited that they're moving ahead on the schedule, getting this plan up and running… They're anticipating the future expansion of the plant."
The expanded Northside plant will eventually be able to take some of the diverted flow, which is of great interest to the state as it oversees this ongoing process.
The expansion will be up and running in 2009.
