Folks concerned about the proposed clear cutting in Cove Swamp in Columbus County have a chance to speak out at a public meeting Thursday night.

Cove Swamp is a 440-acre tract of timberland that borders much of the canal along Canal Cove Road. The owner of the property, The Riverstone Group, plans to clear-cut the timber.

Citizens want to buy property to make sure it is not clear cut, because they say clear cutting could have detrimental effects on the ecology of Lake Waccamaw and area property values.

The meeting is Thursday from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Home's Chapel Fellowship Hall on Flemington Drive in Lake Waccamaw.
