N.C. elections board schedules Wright hearing May 15

READ MORE:

RALEIGH (AP) -- The State Board of Elections will hold a hearing later this month to look into the campaign finances of state Representative Thomas Wright.

The public meeting comes five months after a former Democratic consultant lodged a formal complaint against the New Hanover County Democrat. It's alleged that Wright broke elections law by delaying disclosure of $41,000 in campaign donations.

State Elections Director Gary Bartlett wouldn't discuss what evidence had been uncovered but says the hearing was called for by board chairman Larry Leake.

In March, Bartlett said board investigators believed there was a "possibility of criminal violations" of the campaign reporting law.
