BRUNSWICK COUNTY -- Improved health care is on the horizon for Brunswick County residents.
The state just approved a certificate of need for a new hospital.
Brunswick Community Hospital administrators say they will build a state-of-the-art facility four miles north of the current hospital location.
The new hospital will have 14 more rooms than they have now, plus a 24-hour ER and a maternity center with private rooms.
Hospital president and CEO Denise Mihal said, "This will help us recruit even more staff and new physicians to the area and provide additional services, because we'll be on a new site and we'll be able to expand in the future."
Hospital officials say the new, larger hospital will meet the added health care needs of Brunswick County's growing population.
Construction is tentatively set to begin next year.
