Ports officials contend the additional activity at the Wilmington port demonstrates the need for a new facility in Southport.
Thursday, the Ports Authority will hold a presentation on that planned international terminal. The meeting will take place at the Boiling Spring Lakes Community Center.
Last week, residents heard from the group NO PORT Southport. Ports Authority CEO Tom Eagar said the terminal is critical to North Carolina’s growth. “The North Carolina International Terminal, that's the key driver. It's really the growth within North Carolina, that's our market, that's where we compete,” he said.
The terminal would be built in Southport, but Boiling Spring Lakes residents are concerned about traffic and environmental impacts that would come with the international terminal.
The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. at the community center in Boiling Spring Lakes.
