CHARLOTTE (AP) -- When Fred Whitfield went to the draft lottery in 2001, his Washington Wizards secured the Number One pick in the draft. The Charlotte Bobcats hope he can go 2-for-2.
Whitfield, the Bobcats' team president, will represent Charlotte at the lottery on May 22nd.
The Wizards had the third-best chance -- less than 16 percent -- when they got the Number One pick when Whitfield was the team's director of player personnel.
At the time, Whitfield worked for Michael Jordan, who was the Wizards' president of basketball operations. Jordan is now a Bobcats part-owner with the final say on all basketball decisions.
Whitfield will face much longer odds when he heads to Secaucus, New Jersey, for the lottery this year. After going 33-and-49, Charlotte has less than a two percent chance at getting the top pick.
