A visiting ship has cruised its way into the Port City and it’s bringing a welcome boost to the local economy.

American Cruise Line's American Glory docked on Water Street in downtown Wilmington on Monday.

The ship's journey started in Charleston, and is cruising up the Intracoastal Waterway to Baltimore.

"It's really great having the cruise ship here; it's going to bring more money and more people into the area,” said Doug Buffkin.

Forty passengers got off the boat and spent the day touring Wilmington. According to a recent study, each cruise ship passenger spends an average of $123 each time the ship makes a stop.

During the month of May, three cruise line ships will grace the Wilmington waterfront. The cruise line will make eight trips to Wilmington this year.
