RALEIGH (AP) -- North Carolina State is rewarding its men's and women's basketball coaches with one-year contract extensions.
Sidney Lowe received a one-year extension to make him the Wolfpack men's coach through 2013. The school says the contract he signed last June pays him an annual base salary of 210-thousand dollars. The former Wolfpack point guard led the team to the NIT quarterfinals, and Lowe became the fourth coach in school history to win 20 games in his first season.
Women's coach Kay Yow, who missed 16 games to fight stage-four breast cancer, had her contract extended through the 2011-2012 season. The university says the contract she signed in 1998 pays her $212,000 dollars a year.
The Hall of Fame coach returned in late January and led N.C. State to an emotion-filled late-season run to the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game. The Wolfpack then reached the round of 16 in the NCAA tournament.
