Easley getting behind NASCAR wheel

RALEIGH (AP) -- Governor Mike Easley will get behind the wheel in a NASCAR race this weekend to raise money for the families of National Guard members.

Easley will take a few laps before the start of the NASCAR Nextel All-Star Challenge. The race is tomorrow at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Concord.

The governor will be driving Casey Mears' Number 25 car, named the National Guard GMAC American Heroes Car.

Easley is raising money for the National Guard Family Readiness Program. He's already received numerous pledges for from private donors.

The program helps members of the National Guard and their families by provides information and referral services on a variety of family-related programs.
