Ocean Island Beach holds fundraiser for turtles

The Ocean Isle Beach Sea Turtle Patrol held a fundraiser on Wednesday at the community center. There was a silent auction, educational programs, even a meet and greet with April the sea turtle.

The money collected today will go to benefit the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Hospital in Topsail Beach.

”One of the reasons why we do this here so our great grand children and our grandchildren can come back and see this over and over like we've been able to enjoy it. These turtles are very threatened,” said Gloria Hillenburg.

Don't worry if you missed today's event at Ocean Isle Beach, there are more turtle activities throughout the week.

On Sunday there will be a turtle parade, a turtle presentation on Tuesday, and even the chance to see live turtles next Wednesday.
