Wilmington has taken a back seat to Chicago for the proposed Air Force One Museum.

One of the museum board members said Thursday the issue became how to acquire the land for the proposed site. Officials were hoping the museum would be located on a plot of land owned by the Department of Transportation near MLK Parkway and Kerr Avenue.

A few weeks ago, the city of Chicago presented the museum board with an offer of 100 acres, near an airport; an offer that was approved 8 to 2.

Air Force One Museum board member Howie Franklin said, “It's very disappointing. I think Wilmington would have been a great place for it. It's very disheartening.”

Franklin voted against the decision to send the museum to the Windy City. He also added that no contracts have been signed.
