RALEIGH (AP) -- Temperature records are falling around the state in the summer heat wave and forecasters predict more scorching weather today.
A reading of 102 degrees at Raleigh-Durham International Airport about 4 p.m. yesterday broke a record for the date set in 1999. In Wilmington a high of 98 degrees broke a 128-year-old record. The 102 reading in Charlotte broke a record also set 128 years ago.
Forecasters issued a heat advisory for most of central North Carolina, including Charlotte, Winston-Salem, Greensboro and Durham, as well as the northeastern area including Elizabeth City.
It issued an excessive heat warning for the eastern portion of the state, including Raleigh, Wilmington and Greenville.
