Duke says it 's helping student allegedly assaulted at party

READ MORE:

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) -- Police are investigating an alleged sexual assault of a female Duke University student who said she was attacked today in a bathroom at an off campus party where other students lived.

Durham police said more than 50 people attended the party on Gattis Street.

Police said the 18-year-old student said she was raped by a man about 3 a.m. No charges have been filed.

A spokeswoman for the Durham Police Department didn't respond immediately to a telephone message.

Duke vice president Larry Moneta says in a statement that the university is concerned about the allegations and will cooperate with police. Moneta also says the woman is being supported by university officials.

The alleged assault came nearly 11 months after an alleged bathroom assault of a dancer at an off-campus party held by members of Duke's lacrosse team.

Three members of the lacrosse team face sexual assault and kidnapping charges and have insisted they are innocent.
