No
No one should be texting while driving. Those that do consider themselves more important than anyone else and have no regard for others. Mom or Dad - what are you teaching your children when they see you do it? You are teaching them that you are above the law and that you are more important than anyone else. Teenagers that text - teenagers are inherently dangerous anyway because they get so distracted - now mix that with texting and you have the recipe for disaster. The police are no different - you are expected to uphold the laws and you are expected to obey them. You are a danger to yourself and others if you are texting, no matter what the reason for it. If it is that important, than pullover. THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR FROM ANYONE!
WRECK
ON MY WAY TO WORK THIS MORNING, I SAW A LELAND POLICE CRUISER WRECKED LIKE GOING OVER THE 74/76 BY-PASS GOING SOUTH. COULD THIS BE A RESULT OF TEXTING WHILE DRIVING, SLEEPING BEHIND THE WHEEL, OR ON THE COMPUTER WHILE DRIVING.
WILL HE GET A TICKET LIKE A REGULAR CITIZEN WOULD? IF THEY WANT RESPECT THEY SHOULD SET GOOD EXAMPLES FOR CITIZENS WHICH ALSO INCLUDES SMALL CHILDREN. THEY MAY HEAR ADVICE; BUT ALSO DUPLICATE THE ACTIONS THEY SEE ADULTS DO. SO PLEASE SET A GOOD EXAMPLE POLICEMEN.
Texting Cop
I don't care if it's an emergency or not; they need to pull over out of the road and THEN do what they need to do. Whether or not it is an emergency is not going to change the fact that they can wreck and kill someone while they are doing it, which is why the law is in place to start with. All they are going to do is cause ANOTHER emergency and that doesn't help anyone.
Yep, it's just as dangerous
Yep, it's just as dangerous for a police officer to be texting and driving as it is for one of us civilians.
This should be addressed by the police chief.
If we aren't allowed to do
If we aren't allowed to do it, neither should they. I already see enough of them using the laptops while driving, which should be illegal. Law Enforcement always has an exemption for themselves in any new law like texting while driving etc.
They are drivers just like us, and they are supposed to enforce the very same laws they are breaking...

agreed. and those of you who think it's okay if it's an emergency or just because they are cops need to reconsider. It doesn't matter what the situation is or who the driver is ... they can still just as easily wreck and kill someone no matter what the circumstance. That is why there is a law. If a cop needs to text, emergency or not, they need to get off the road first and be stopped so they don't cause an accident. Plain and simple.

I think it would set a good example if they would simply pull off the side of the road to look at texts or apps!
Should police officers text while driving
They are no different from anyone else behind the wheel. They can swerve and hit someone. They should pull over to the side and then check their messages or texts or whatever even phone calls. It is deadly to text or use a cell phone while driving. My son was going down River Road and was behind a police officer who was swerving back and forth across the bike land and the middle lane. My son called it in to have someone have a talk with him. Don't know if anything ever came of it.
NO TO USING CELL PHONE OR TEXTING WHILE DRIVING. PULL OVER 1ST.
