President Bush visits North Carolina today

FRANKLINTON, N.C. (AP) -- President Bush visits North Carolina later today to discuss his ideas for cutting gasoline consumption in the United States.

Bush will visit Novozymes, a biotech plant in Franklinton, which is located about 25 miles north of Raleigh. The company produces enzymes to help turn matter such as corn into ethanol fuel, among other things.

The White House says Bush will talk about his proposals to reduce gasoline use by 20 percent in the next ten years.

And nearby, a protesters will gather to protest the war in Iraq and to support Sami al-Arian. He's a former university professor being held at a medical prison in Butner indefinitely for refusing to testify before a grand jury.

The protest will be held at the intersection of U-S One and NC 56.
