Local studio exec makes Oscar predictions

READ MORE:

The Academy Awards are Sunday night right here on ABC and NewsChannel 3.

President of EUE’s Screen Gems Studios, Frank Capra, Jr. is on his way to California, but it is not his first time to the Oscars. Capra says he always has a good time. "It's great, it's at the new Kodak Theater and the Academy has a building on Hollywood Blvd. They set up stands across the street and all the limos pull up and you get out and there's all the paparazzi everywhere, too, taking pictures and there's this red carpet thing that you walk through and get interviewed on."

Capra does not go to the awards just to have a good time. He says he goes to see “a lot of people that I know and say hello and remind them that we're still here in Wilmington and we want their business so you know so part of it is kind of recruiting too."

Of course, I had to ask the famous filmmaker and other aspiring actors who they predict will win the Oscar.

Capra says the best picture is probably between Departed and Babel. “I particularly liked Little Miss Sunshine, but that's me" says Capra. His pick for best actor is Forest Whitaker in The Last King of Scotland. For best actress in a leading role, he predicted Helen Mirren in The Queen to win. Capra believes Eddie Murphy will get the Oscar for best actor in a supporting role.

Capra was not involved in any films being nominated this year, but is working on five major films that he feels have a good chance of being nominated next year.

You can see who wins the Oscars this year on NewsChannel 3 and ABC 8 p.m. Sunday.
