RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- The Carolina Hurricanes are still in the Eastern Conference playoff race, but by the slimmest margin.
Entering tonight's game against the Ottawa Senators at the RBC Center, Carolina has 71 points, which is good enough for eighth place in the playoff standings. That's a point less than Montreal and one point more than the New York Islanders. It's just two points ahead of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Carolina is also four points behind the Atlanta Thrashers in the Southeast Division after Atlanta beat Boston 3-2 last night.
The Hurricanes have won two of their last three games despite going scoreless on their previous 11 power play chances. Carolina is also 6-3-1 in their last 10 games.
