GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) -- For the first time in six years, Florida State has a victory in the Atlantic Coast Conference women's basketball tournament.
Mara Freshour scored 12 of her career-high 18 points in the first half to lead Florida State to a 70-53 victory over Wake Forest in the first round of the tournament in Greensboro.
Jacinta Monroe scored 16 points and Tanae Davis-Cain had 12 for the fifth-seeded Seminoles, who in winning their 22nd game strengthened their NCAA tournament resume. It's just Florida State's fourth ACC tournament victory in 19 tries.
Florida State plays fourth seed North Carolina State on Friday.
Alex Tchangoue had 13 points for 12th-seeded Wake Forest, which went winless in the ACC this season.
