BRUNSWICK COUNTY -- Forest officials are dealing with the aftermath of several wildfires burning in local counties. Saturday, crews worked to make sure the roughly 400-acre blaze that broke out Friday is under control.
District Ranger Jonathan Ambrose said the biggest challenge while fighting multiple fires in local counties Friday was the availability of equipment. Also, the rate at which the flames spread made fighting the fires difficult. While there are still some spots burning in Brunswick County, Ambrose said the wildfire is one-hundred percent contained.
"We're not having a whole lot of problems with mop-up, very little ground fire. But we are continuing to widen some of the lines. Hopefully today we'll be able to put what we think are dangerous spots out," Ambrose said.
There is no word yet on a cause of the fire. The Forest Service will monitor the area throughout the next week.
