Hewett to receive paycheck during suspension

BRUNSWICK COUNTY -- Opinions on the street are mixed as to whether Brunswick County Sheriff Ronald Hewett should get a paycheck during his suspension. But opinions aside, the county attorney has made a decision.

Huey Marshall says Hewett will continue to receive his pay check, even though he is suspended.

Marshall says he did this because Hewett is paid based on his position -- not a 40-hour work week, so even though he's suspended he has not been officially removed from the position.

At their meeting next Monday the county commissioners will discuss whether the coroner, Greg White, will get additional money now that he is functioning as sheriff.
